Good Foods for the Immune System

Our immune system is a complex method to fight off infection or unknown substances in our bodies. While our bodies fight the bad, it can sometimes make us feel really sick. There are certain things we can eat and drink to help our body’s immune system knock out the competition without us feeling so horrible.

Step 1: Prevention

We have all heard the story of preventing sickness; wash your hands, don’t rub your eyes, stay overly hygienic. But we can actually help prevent sickness with our diet as well.

Beans: Many legumes are packed with vitamins, including a type of B Vitamin that is great for our immune system. Beans are a great to tool to prevent sickness because they can be cooked in so many different ways and put in so many different meals.

Oranges: Vitamin C has been a bit of a controversy in the health field lately. However it has been proven that Vitamin C can prevent sicknesses like the cold. If oranges are a bit too bulky and messy for you, clementines are an adorable, no mess solution.

Berries: Raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries all are jam packed with antioxidants. This means they help our immune system break down harmful substances. They are also delicious and so easy to chow down at home or on the go.

Step 2: Fighting Sickness

Each type of sickness requires a slightly different diet. However there are some all around MVPs that help our immune system kick out the bad.

Garlic: This flavorful vegetable has many antioxidants that help people get over sickness faster. For the most nutrients, eat garlic raw. The taste can be a bit strong but the effects work like magic to make you feel better.

Yogurt: Yogurt is made up probiotic bacteria that help our bodies rejuvenate. Probiotics are great for our digestive health as well as immune system. Yogurt will help your body get back to normal quicker.

Hot Tea: Tea can be soothing to a soar throat or cough, but tea also provides our body with ore antioxidants. All green, black, and white tea share the same antioxidants that help our body fight off sickness.
