If your kids have food allergies or friends with food allergies, you know that hosting an allergy safe birthday party can be stressful. Here are some tips to take the stress out of it!
Be proactive: Ask about any food allergies when sending out the invitation to give yourself plenty of time to prepare.
Be discrete: Welcome your food allergic guest like any other, but let them know you've talked to their parents and know about their allergies and that they can come ask you if they have any questions or concerns.
Know the medications: Those kids with severe allergies will always bring their medication. Make sure that you're comfortable with using the medication in case of an emergency, and if you're not- make sure you have someone around that is.
Accept help: If you're not familiar with food allergies it can be quite overwhelming. Don't be afraid to ask a food allergy parent to help you at the party.
- Keep all snacks allergy friendly or have separate bowls (on a separate table) for allergy free snacks: Finger foods like chips & snacks are great party treats because the kids can have as much or little as they like, but they're a nightmare for food allergies as they are set up for cross-contamination. Avoid this by having all allergy friendly snacks or having seperate bowls (on a seperate table) for the allergy free snacks.
