If you’re anything like me, when you experience a headache, you’re desperate for a quick remedy. If the Advil in your medicine cabinet just won’t cut it, it might be time to try a drink made of natural ingredients to soothe your headache*.
*Please note that these remedies may have different effects on the individual and may not work for severe migraine-sufferers.
1.) Sweet and Spice Honey, Ginger Lemon Tea
Small (1-2 inches long) piece of ginger root (can by in product section)
1 tsbp Honey (local is best!)
1 small lemon
Peel outer skin of ginger root with peeler
Peel a small amount of fresh ginger shavings from the root piece
Cut lemon into thin slices
Boil water, enough for 1-2 cups water
Add ginger pieces, lemon, and honey to water
Sip and enjoy!
Note: for a more comfortable sipping experience, put ginger shavings in a loose-leaf tea strainer
2.) Pain-kicker: Skull Cap and Chamomile
Either skull-cap extract, or dried skull cap herbs (bought at a local health food or herb store)
Chamomile (fresh or bagged)
Boil water, enough for 1-2 cups
Place an equal mix of chamomile leaves and skull cap in tea strainer or bag
OR soak chamomile tea bag in water, and add 1-2 droplets of skull-cap extract
Note: Skull cap has a bitter flavor, so it is paired best with a sweet herbal tea
3.) Breathe-easy Butterbur Tea
~1 tsp butterbur (bought at a local health food or herb store)
Soak ButterBur in 1 cup luke-warm water overnight
Boil the mixture
Strain the leafs and drink
Note: Like SkullCap, Butterbur can be bitter so it’s best to add honey or pair with a sweet herbal tea.
4.) Hydrating Pineapple and Coconut Water Slushy (for heat-triggered headaches)
½ cup diced fresh pineapple
1 cup coconut water
½ cup ice (optional)
Blend to desired consistency
